New PF Butter Additions: Must Haves*

New PF Butter Additions: Must Haves*

Hello everyone! It’s been a really long time – the virtual school year has been demanding and oh! I got mega injured at the end of November which took over a month to recover from. Full story is in my IG highlights (@thechowstyle.)

Anyway, I was really fortunate to receive a bunch of the new additions to the Physician’s Formula Butter Collection and while most of the products are great, here are my top 3 must haves from this release:

The first product I would recommend is their new Butter Believe It! Putty Primer. It’s smooth, lightweight, and doesn’t feel greasy when applied to the skin. Just make sure your face is moisturized so it can perfectly prep your skin for makeup.

The next product should come as no surprise especially if you follow me on Instagram (really – that is where I do most of my posting and micro-blogging anyway.) This is their new All-Star Face Palette and literally has everything you need. While I still used foundation, this set includes a face powder, blush, and several bronzer and highlight options. The Mineral Glow Pearl gives the most ethereal glow!

Finally, I would recommend picking up one of their Diamond Plumper glosses. I didn’t find them to be painful or tingly as some plumping glosses are and was very comfortable. Light Pink Princess Cut was subtle in terms of colour (very sheer, almost applies clear) which is exactly my jam.
Full face of PF:

Face: PF Butter Believe It! Putty Primer, The Healthy Foundation in MN3, All Star Face Palette

Eyes: PF Sultry Nights eyeshadow palette, Mineral Pearls powder from the All Star Face Palette, Matte Monoi Liquid Liner, Eyebrow Booster in Taupe, Butter Blowout Mascara

Lips: PF Diamond Plumper gloss in Light Pink Princess Cut

All of the products in this post are available now at your local drugstore as well as online at https://www.physiciansformula.com

Have you tried anything from their Butter Collection? Any faves? Let me know! Thanks so much for stopping by!

SPOTLIGHT: Amelia Rose

SPOTLIGHT: Amelia Rose

Hello everyone! One of my favourite slow fashion brands I discovered just over a year or so ago is Amelia Rose Apparel. Based in Kingston and run by a supermom and style icon, Amelia Viveiros creates the most beautiful kimonos, hair accessories, and fun shirts and face masks! Near the beginning of the pandemic, Amelia embarked on The Mask Project which involved a GoFundMe campaign that enabled her to donate over 2000 handmade masks to frontline workers. She is a beautiful human, inside and out, and I always highly recommend shopping from Amelia Rose (cough cough, Christmas IS coming…)

SPOTLIGHT: Simple Girl

SPOTLIGHT: Simple Girl

Hello everyone! A couple of years ago, I discovered Simple Girl through a friend on Instagram and I’m so glad I did. It is a small business owned by a wonderful human named Emma, whose positive attitude and sunny disposition show up in her everyday life as well as through her clothing brand.

Selections from Rare Beauty

Hello everyone! I’m not a Selena Gomez mega fan (no beef with her – just didn’t listen to a lot of her music) but when I started watching her show, Selena + Chef, I was pleasantly surprised at how fun and chill she seems. So when I found out she was coming out with a makeup line, I was intrigued. I’m slowly becoming more interested in makeup again so it was fun going to Sephora on launch day and picking out a few items.

Mask Game Strong

Mask Game Strong

Hello everyone! Who would’ve thought that the hot fashion accessory of 2020 would be face masks? It honestly makes me so sad every time I see a disposable mask on the ground – so wasteful and not safe for wild animals! Why not be green and stylish AND safe with a reusable mask? Here are a few of my favourite online shops to get 100% Canadian handmade reusable masks.

1. KiaOra & Co (made in Ancaster, ON)

My friend Velle and her sister started making masks out of the most beautiful fabrics (hello Rifle Paper designs!) They graciously sent me a few from their collection, including this pretty blue floral wave mask pictured above. They have kid’s and adult sizes starting at $14.99. Comfortable, stylish, and well made – and free (untracked) shipping too!

2. Audaurie (made in Montreal, Quebec)

If you’re looking for a bit more of a shaped mask in gorgeous designs, check out Audaurie on Etsy. The owner, Stephanie is a ballet instructor and in her spare time, makes the prettiest ballet inspired accessories. Her masks range from abstract (above aka my fave type of design), cute graphics, to SEQUINS! They’re only one size but are very easy to adjust. Prices start at $18 with free shipping as well!

3. Amelia Rose Apparel (made in Kingston, ON)

So it all started with Project Mask near the beginning of the pandemic here in Canada. Amelia Viveiros of Amelia Rose started a crowd funding campaign to be able to provide local frontline workers with handmade reusable masks. Since I’ve been a fan of her products for a while now (I LIVE in her headbands and her kimonos are STUNNING) of course, I contributed. Since then, she has donated over 1300 handmade masks (all made by Amelia herself) and has the most fun fabrics ever! ALSO a big plus is that she has 2 adult sizes available. Size 1 is for smaller/slender faces, whereas your girl here is #TeamBigFace all damn day and I LOVE the size 2. Masks are $14 each and I believe shipping is generally $5 for standard. (The You’re Too Close tee is from her as well!) Use promo code chow15 for 15% off your order!

I have so many masks now and I LOVE them, especially since they were all made by fantastic women. Do you use reusable masks? Please let me know if you end up supporting any of these businesses! I love shopping local and supporting small businesses as much as possible. Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Lip Bar

The Lip Bar

Hello everyone! It’s been a really long time I know. I thought I would have more motivation to blog during the lockdown but alas – I didn’t! Anyway, recently I noticed on IG that my friend Jen (@vibrantvvbeauty) had placed an order on National Lipstick Day with The Lip Bar. I had never heard of this brand before but was excited to try this black-owned business and also take advantage of their buy one get one free sale for the occasion (and pick up an extra lipstick bc why not!)

Life Update + Quarantine Living

Life Update + Quarantine Living

Hello everyone! I know it’s been a long time since my last post but I’m thinking there will be tons of time to do that with the current state of the world.

I am currently staying with the HF in Hamilton as it seems like the best way to keep my dad safe. My dad is 71 years old so I am minimizing contact with him. I check in with him a couple of times a week and last I checked, he was fortunately fully stocked up. I managed to also snag him 2 packages of toilet paper last weekend so hopefully he has been staying in more. Tough for him because that’s where I get my random love of window shopping/general shopping from. He just likes going to stores. What a dude.

My oldest best friend, Ruth, is a doctor working in NYC. Both she and her husband are doctors and on the frontlines of the pandemic. They have been making sacrifices to keep their family safe, and working endlessly to treat and serve their communities.

The HF and I are only leaving the house for walks, drives, and going to get groceries. No matter what, we make sure to practice social distancing. We have also started to maximize our grocery store trips so we can decrease how often we need to go. It’s definitely been hard for me since I’ve never been the homebody type. I like being able to go wherever I want, see whoever I want, whenever I want. BUT I understand the severity of the situation and I not only have to worry about my health, but those around me.

Please, stay home. Read, clean, dance around in your underwear. When this is all over, there will be plenty of time to celebrate with loved ones and shop til you drop to help our local economies. My birthday is coming up on the 26th and so my celebrations have been postponed – but I am doing a Facebook fundraiser for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

More posts will be written in the coming weeks – I have a couple of newer eyeshadow palettes that I’m excited to share, and I think I will spotlight some small businesses to help them out as well during these troubled times.

Stay safe and healthy, stay home, wash your hands, and thank you for stopping by!

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Jazz & Velvet Myth

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Jazz & Velvet Myth

Hello everyone! I pulled the ultimate rookie move and forgot to take regular (non-square) product photos…it shows that I haven’t blogged about beauty in a long time. Anyway I hope you can forgive me since these lipsticks are absolutely gorgeous regardless. When I found out the Lisa Eldridge True Velvet lipsticks were being restocked/re-released via pre-sale, I had to jump on it, especially seeing how amazing they looked on Jen of Vibrant Vivacious Veracious Beauty.

EATS: Maipai

EATS: Maipai

Hello everyone!! I had been WAITING for Maipai to open ever since I heard that my friend Salar of Pokeh fame was opening up an actual restaurant. Although I had secretly been hoping for a place to get Bacon Fatty’s and Miso Poutine (memories of Meatventures) I was pumped to hear it was going to be a Detroit-style Pizza and Tiki bar spot on Barton. EATS: The Restaurant at Pearl Morissette

Hello everyone! I’d had The Restaurant at Pearl Morissette on my radar ever since they were named Canada’s Best New Restaurant in 2018. I was waiting for the perfect occasion and decided to make a reservation for the HF’s birthday right when they opened it up for November 23rd…exactly 3 months before. The HF had no idea where we were going as I led him down a dark country road and then turned at the big red cardinal. He jokingly asked if I was leading him somewhere to kill him – what a silly nut.
